2016/04/07 - Beating the rain

Mike and I rode our bikes from Idaho Springs to Echo Lake this morning.

That's 14 miles one-way with 3,223' of elevation gain.

You might think that the ride down is more fun than the ride up, but that wasn't the case today. In this weather condition it's simply a different type of suffering.

Riding a bike at 25 mph in 40 degrees creates a considerable wind-chill factor.  By the time I got back to the car my fingers were numb.

We met before dawn and luckily beat the rain.

It started raining when we got back to the car in Idaho Springs and rained all the way home.

The road to the summit is closed for cars, but OK for pedestrians and cyclists. From what we heard it's messy and only plowed to a certain point.

Mike and I may go back one night this week to see how far up the road we can get.

Later,
Steve
